Chinese Father's Day: August 8 2009

As most countries celebrate father's day on June 21st, China celebrates theirs every August 8.

The first Chinese Father's Day was celebrated in Shanghai, August 8 1945. But why August 8? It's because the number 8 is pronounced as ba in Mandarin the same as father or Papa the day itself is even BaBa Day.

Some would say that celebrations like father's day, mother's day, grandfather's day. etc are highly commercialized for business gains. Even if it's true, isn't it just right to give our love ones a special day just for them (aside from their birthdays)? Thanking them for the sacrifices they made for the family. And most of all, celebrations like this will instill to the young minds the importance of family, responsibility, love and affection.

So as early as this week, we are putting on our Chinese and Vietnamese dresses on sale as our way of honoring our Chinese friends. :)

A Child Healed Their Broken Hearts

Really touching article, http://tinyurl.com/l26x35. Perfect example of how a family can rise from a very difficult situation.

The unconditional love of a child truly brings closure to a wounded heart. I bet your child can take away the stress you feel when you get home after work. It's amazing how children make us crazy at times but still able to make us feel proud.

Hopefully, the article brings inspiration to you and your family.

Great Wedding Idea: Party all the way!

Planning your wedding and thinking of a great way to spice up your big day? Well, Jill and Kevin might have the greatest idea you might have :) Here's a video of a unique and creative wedding they had:

Cool right? The entire entourage has been invited at the Today's show to do a repeat performance since this video went viral over the Internet. This is one of the videos that never fails to put a smile on my face and I totally understand why it's getting a lot of attention :)

Their wedding was fun, creative, simple yet so full of love. Look at how the entourage's dresses are simple even the bride's wedding gown is simple but I bet this is one wedding that's hard to forget! It just shows that you don't need to break the bank to have an unforgettable wedding.

It would have been super nice though if flower girls on flower girl dresses where dancing with the entourage :)

Nikon makes big fuss at BlogHer event

Nikon was one of the sponsors who INVITED Moms from the BlogHer event to promote their product. It was a huge leap for the company to tap on the most read Mommy bloggers in the US ( or maybe around the world), what made the event really sad was that the Nikon party organizers chose a restaurant that does not allow babies. What were they thinking? Here are my reactions on the event:

1. Nikon should have realized that BlogHer is for MOMMIES. BlogHer is a baby and kid friendly event because it knows its audience--which are Moms who have babies and kids to look after to.

2. Nikon should have welcomed the kids with open arms because most Moms buy cameras to bookmark the growing milestones of their kids! Nikon could have used that for their marketing strategy.

3. It was a lousy mistake that merits an apology from the company.

4. Who are the Nikon party organizers? Maybe they're not Moms. Nikon should "fit" organizers according to the event.

5. Okay it's a HUGE mistake but I don't think a boycott is a must. It's a lesson learned the hard way for Nikon and let's just hope no other company follows their grave mistake.

As for the Moms who were turned away from the restaurant, my heart bleeds knowing they did it because of your kids. I have a kid too and I know it's the hardest job in the world being a mom or a parent at that. Now, it's your prerogative to boycott or not. I know the world will understand whatever decision you make :)
