Back to business

Hi guys!

I'm back from vacation but I feel like I'm more tired than before. Must be the unpacking and a minor reorganization of body clock and do I have to say the start of classes for my daughter eats most of my time? I'm sure you know what I mean.

Anyway, your orders are on your way as soon as I stepped foot on my office last Sunday so I'm guessing you already have it by now. :)

If there are any problems, please feel free to contact me so we can talk about it.

I have a new dress to introduce after I catch my breathe so please watch out for that! Thanks for your continued support!

Comments and suggestions are very much welcome!

What is the perfect age for flower girls?

I'm asking this because a friend is getting married really soon (as in 3 weeks soon!) and we as her bestest friends are in a panic preparing the details for the wedding. This question popped in my mind while doing the measurements for the flower girl dresses that my friend chose for her entourage. The youngest of the flower girls is 21 months old and the oldest is 5 years old. I wonder if the 21 months old cutie pie will be able to walk the aisle without so much a cry. In my opinion the age bracket should be 3 to 5 years old. Even at that age, tantrum is very very unpredictable. And my friend specifically said she wanted a peaceful and solemn church wedding!

What to do???

Few things come up my mind:

Maybe I can ask the mother of the younger ones to stay on the front and motion to their kids to walk to them. This way, kids will tend to focus on getting to their Mom and voila! walks the aisle with no trouble.

Or, I can ask the Moms to accompany the cutie pies while walking the aisle..but that won't look good huh?

Well, Sept. 8 is pretty near so I'll just have to tell you how it went :)

Or maybe you have better ideas?

Beauty Pageant and Ms. Universe 2009

I've watched the live satellite feed and all the ladies were pretty and to be honest I think there were few ladies who deserved to be given a chance on the top 15 but didn't get in. But anyways, that's how pageant life is.

Congratulations to Stefania Fernandez for winning the crown! Second hurrah for Venezuela as the 2008 Ms. Universe is also from Venezuela.

In my honest opinion, I think a true Ms. Universe should at least speak English since it's the language commonly used around the world. Will she be walking around her tour of duty with an interpreter in tow? I don't know better but at that's just me.

They say most of the ladies who join beauty pageants such as the Ms. Universe are "trained" since they're little. Is your child one of them? Is your child a beauty queen in the making?
I've read and seen a lot about little girl's beauty pageant and most often than not, there are nasty things that happen in the backstage. I remember thinking, is this really a "career" for both parent and child or just a single sided dream (ehmmm..frustration?)

No matter where you stand, please do remember to enjoy the pageant and the experience it brings so as not to over do it. Winning isn't everything and losing isn't the end of it either.

How to Make a Flower Girl Up-do for Shoulder Length Hair

Is your little girl going to be a flower girl and you want to pile her hair up but her hair is not long enough?

I know your dilemma, I've been a low-maintenance girl on hair since childhood so I can relate if some mommies out there have no idea on how to make a nice updo.

I looked around so that the hair-clueless like me and you will have a chance to try this out. Updos always look nice for formal events. There are lots of ways to pile up the hair, but here is one simple technique I would like to share with you.

What you'll need:
- comb and clamp
- ceramic curler iron or alternative curlers you have access to
- hair pins that match your little girl's hair
- optional: a nice blingy headband for formal wear

1. Curl the hair with the curling iron. Put some hair product after to retain the volume and curl.
2. Fix the bangs area as you wish, side or middle parted, or leave a tendril or two.
3. Lightly handle the curls and take the hair in the crown area and upper half of the head. Lightly clamp high on the head, near the crown.
4. Take the loose hair on the lower part of the head, and twist into a bun near the middle of the head. Secure with hair pins. Hide the pins from view. Loosen the clamped hair.
5. Here's the tricky part: take the left half the loosened curls, sweep back and pin in a line on the left side of the bun. Then sweep back the right half of the hair, pin in a line on the right side of the bun. Curls will just be swept back away from the ears but still loose at the back. Pins don't have to be in a line if you find something that works, we all have different hair types anyway.

It will look like the hair is longer, and put up.

6. Spritz with hair spray for "durability" in case your little cutie decides to bounce around later.

7. Put a nice blingy headband suited for formal dresses.

Tip: Practice, practice, practice. If you're concerned with damaging your little girl's hair with your diligent practice, grab your best friend and practice everyday. Then if you feel you're good at it already, have one practice session with your daughter as the wedding nears. Also have her wear her flower girl Elite Dress. Yup, like a dress rehearsal of some sort.

Hope you'll find this useful :-)

What to look for when shopping online for girl's dresses

For a start, make sure that the online seller is reliable and that your will be transaction/s is 100% safe. Because of the economic crunch you can't afford to lose money on shopping online and there are plenty of ways to know if the online seller is reliable or not such as the security seal, testimonials from previous clients, product reviews and yes, Google the seller's reputation. The ABOUT US page could be very helpful too. Make sure that the seller state their name, address and telephone number so you can contact them anytime. When none, it could be that the seller is trying to hide from you.

Then important things follow:

1. An up-to-date, current web site. A legit online store updates information everyday and continuously adds products and eliminates those that are being discontinued.

2.
Customer care. Great customer service doesn't end after the order has been done. It should continue until the customer received the order. Immediate response to your concerns thru chat, emails and telephone is a must. Since you rely on what you see on the website, the online seller must be willing to answer all queries regarding the product he/she sells.

3.
No hidden charges. Make sure that what you get your money's worth. And that the total cost of the transaction is clear. Confirm first the exact amount before pushing with the purchase.

How to Preserve those oh-so-cute Flower Girl Dresses

Want to keep and preserve the EliteDress you got for baby? It would make a cute memento that you can pass on to your daughter later on.

Or, you may have several daughters and want to keep our classic elitedress looking as spankin' brand new as the day big sister wore it. After all, the basic but elegant lines of our dresses will surely not go out of style.

The usual practice is to have the dress drycleaned after use, hanging up the closet with a linen/ plastic dress bag. However, this can result to discolorations.

Here are some tips to help you store those elitedresses.
  • Get a pure cotton sheet, wash with hot water. Or get archival acid-free tissue. There are also archival boxes that can store the dress if you want it folded while storing.
  • After use, have the dress dry-cleaned. Some laudry shops also specialize in preserving dresses.
  • Take out fabric covered accessories or embellishments, wrap in archival tissue. Store separately from the dress.
  • Fold the gown or hang it up, insert archival tissues between folds and fabric.
  • Wrap in the pure cotton fabric.
  • Store in a dry place.
Do check the EliteDress every few years.

There are more classic formal dresses at our store that are truly worth preserving. See more styles.

A laugh

For all of us with kids, or you can share this with your parents..

WHY GOD CREATED CHILDREN (AND IN THE PROCESS GRANDCHILDREN)

To those of us who have children in our lives, whether they are our own,
grandchildren, nieces, nephews, or students...here is something to make
you chuckle.

Whenever your children are out of control, you can take comfort from the
thought that even God's omnipotence did not extend to His own children.

After creating heaven and earth, God created Adam and Eve. And the
first thing he said was "DON'T!"

"Don't what?" Adam replied.

"Don't eat the forbidden fruit." God said.

"Forbidden fruit? We have forbidden fruit? Hey Eve...we have forbidden
fruit!!!!!"

"No Way!"

"Yes way!"

"Do NOT eat the fruit!" said God.

"Why"

"Because I am your Father and I said so!" God replied, wondering why He
hadn't stopped creation after making the elephants. A few minutes
later, God saw His children having an apple break and He was ticked!

"Didn't I tell you not to eat the fruit?" God asked.

"Uh huh," Adam replied.

"Then why did you?" said the Father.

"I don't know," said Eve.

"She started it!" Adam said

"Did not!"

"Did too!"

"DID NOT!"

Having had it with the two of them, God's punishment was that Adam and
Eve should have children of their own. Thus the pattern was set and it
has never changed.

---By Vanessa (beyondsanity.livejournal.com)

BUT THERE IS REASSURANCE IN THE STORY!

If you have persistently and lovingly tried to give children wisdom and
they haven't taken it, don't be hard on yourself. If God had trouble
raising children, what makes you think it would be a piece of cake for
you?

THINGS TO THINK ABOUT!

1. You spend the first two years of their life teaching them to walk
and talk. Then you spend the next sixteen telling them to sit down and
shut up.

2. Grandchildren are God's reward for not killing your own children.

3. Mothers of teens now know why some animals eat their young.

4. Children seldom misquote you. In fact, they usually repeat word for
word what you shouldn't have said.

5. The main purpose of holding children's parties is to remind yourself
that there are children more awful than your own.

6. We childproofed our homes, but they are still getting in.

ADVICE FOR THE DAY: Be nice to your kids. They will take care of you when you're old.

AND FINALLY: IF YOU HAVE A LOT OF TENSION AND YOU GET A HEADACHE, DO
WHAT IT SAYS ON THE ASPIRIN BOTTLE:

"TAKE TWO ASPIRIN" AND "KEEP AWAY FROM CHILDREN"

Teach your kids about respect and culture

We came from different races but it's not reason to compete with who is better than who. Our world has too much division that simple things like culture should be given respect and should be shared. You will notice that traditional dresses (Chinese- Cheongsam, QiPao , Vietnamese- Ao Dai Cuoi ) of different culture are now used inappropriately giving so much disrespect to the significance that it embodies.

Let us not be part of this. Let us teach our children the importance of embracing one's culture and acknowledging others'. Even in our simple way, we are able to give back what we owe to our culture.
