Ching Ming is also known as "Remembrance of Ancestors Day" or 'Grave Sweeping Day'. It's normally celebrated on the 4th or 5th day of April which ever falls on a Monday (day after Easter).
Graves of dead relatives are being cleaned and visited on this day. The counterpart of this festival is All Soul's Day. Families bring incense sticks, paper offerings such as paper money, paper boats, paper clothes and accessories, etc (depending on how traditional the family is). They then burn these offerings believing that the dead relatives will receive them. Flowers are also popular on this day, Chrysanthemum is the traditional flower during Ching Ming. (So please do not give Chrysanthemum to your Chinese friends as it is being associated with grave sweeping and funerals)
Food is also served on this day. Usually it's roasted suckling pig, steamed chicken, fruit and wine which will all be devoured after the ceremony and worshiping. On this day, some traditional families wear Chinese dresses to honor their dead and the festival. They prefer to wear red or white Chinese dresses.
Some old Chinese people hang willow branches on their windows and doors to ward off evil spirits, as on Ching Ming, ghosts and evil spirits wander.
