Wicked Witch of the West

Going along with “The Wizard of Oz” ideas from the last post, why not a Wicked Witch of the West costume? We can use either our Girl's beautiful Black Sleeveless Formal Dress (D056) or our black sleeveless dress with a-line skirt (DKC1188B), a nice witch's hat (better to get a nice one to match that wonderful dress) and some homemade green face paint to complete the lovely Halloween costume for your daughter.

Here's how to make the face paint:

What you will need
  • 1 tsp cornstarch
  • ½ tsp water
  • ½ tsp cold cream
  • drops of green food color
  • cotton balls for application

What you will do
  1. mix the cornstarch and water into a paste
  2. add in the cold cream
  3. add few drops (1 or 2) of green food coloring to the mix, set aside
  4. wash and dry face
  5. with the cotton balls apply the face paint to face in a thin layer. Note: don't not complete cover your child's face with a thick layer, a thin layer will do just fine.
Just give your little one a broom and she's all set to fly.

A really nice Halloween costume idea is Dorothy from movie “The Wizard of OZ”. This is very simple and easy. Using our dress, girls' two tone Dupioni silk formal dress (D112), you daughter will look like she's off to see the wizard. But Dorothy wouldn't be complete with out a few things. Note: This costume will look best if your little girl has long hair.

Lovely Little Red Riding Hood

I was looking at the dress we had and came across a lovely red dress we had in stock, our girls' red capped sleeve taffeta formal dress (D108). I said to myself, this would make a nice little red riding hood costume, all you need is a cape. Here's a simple cape idea you can use.

List Price: $75.00
Our Price: $30.99
You save $44.01!

  • Fully lined and gives that pretty bouncy look
  • Comfortable fabric
  • Available in baby sizes and girls' sizes 2-12
Let your daughter feel like the dazzling princess she is!

What you will need:
  • an old red Christmas tree skirt
  • old red pillow case
  • scissors
  • simple sewing kit (if you can't sew, a hot glue gun or hemming tape will do)

What you will do:
  1. Because it's a Christmas tree skirt, be sure to clean it very well, better if you put it in the wash.
  2. Once dry, cut a hole a little larger than the neck of your child.
  3. Fold in the edges where your cut the hole (around a half an inch or so) and sew the edges down (you can use hemming tape or a hot glue gun if you can't sew). This is your cape. Now for the hood.
  4. Cut one long side of the old red pillow case (on the fold) from the open end to the closed end.
  5. Fold in the edges where you cut, about ½ inch and sew like the you did with the cape.
  6. Try the hood on your daughter, cut off any excess fabric. It is important that the hood cover the back of the head until a little pass the shoulders.
  7. Now place the cape you made, making sure that the ends of the hood will be under the cape. Tip: you can secure the hood to the cape with some hemming tape.

Now all you need is a small wicker basket as her Halloween candy bag and she's off to see her grandmother.

A Spooky Vampire Princess

Here's a spooky yet cute idea for Halloween, coming from the royal vampire family, a vampire princess. With our Victorian style red and black empire waist dress (DKD279BR) and our lovely red and black girls' fleece cape style jacket (BKD127, it comes in 3 colors) will make your daughter look like heir to the vampire throne. Just add some homemade blood (instructions below), costume fangs and a crown to complete the look (you can buy these at your local super store). Let's makes some blood!

Sheer tulle is so in!

What you will need:

  • 1 cup of dark corn syrup
  • ½ tbs of warm water (if it's too thick, just add a little more water)
  • 3 tbs of red food coloring
  • few drops of yellow and blue food coloring
  • A cotton bud for application

What you will do:

  1. Mix warm water, red food coloring and dark corn syrup (the darker the better) in a bowl
  2. Mix well and let cool for a bit
  3. When cool, start mixing again while adding drops of yellow and blue food coloring (start first with yellow and adjust with the blue)
  4. Once you get the color right, use a cotton bud to apply the fake blood on your daughter, don't use too much, it may drop on her lovely red party dress and elegant fleece cape. Though, if it does stain, dabbing it with cold water and pre-treating it with liquid detergent will help.

Now, your little vampire princess will rule the night. Then after Halloween is over, she can use the dress for the next birthday party or wedding.
