A Trip Down Memory Lane

It was sweet of my friend to invite my whole family—after all, we have known each other since forever. And so during the reception, my dad and I were able to have a moment. Looking at his grandchildren frolick in their colorful flower girl dresses, he began to recount how much they reminded him of myself growing up. I was so surprised at how his memory was so vivid.

We took a walk down memory lane, remembering each walk of mine down the aisle as a flower girl. Dad said that I started my career as a flower girl at the ripe young age of three years old. Cute as I looked, it took a few years before I finally warmed up to the thought of flower girl dresses. And by the time I truly appreciated dresses, he said he had a teenager. I could sense how much he enjoyed recounting their memories.

And finally the day came that we walked together down the aisle. It was my wedding day and he remembered how hard I clutched his arm as he gave me away to my future husband. He teared up at this point as I listen to my Dad’s story take me from age to age, until he had to say goodbye to his baby girl. I teared up too, and I leaned over and whispered, “I’ll always be your baby, Daddy”.
