Emma’s Garden Polka-Dot Girls’ Dresses Recalled by TJX Due to Choking Hazard

The decorative buttons on the front of the dress can detach, posing a choking hazard.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and Health Canada, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed. It is illegal to resell or attempt to resell a recalled consumer product.

Name of Product: Emma’s Garden® Polka-Dot girls’ dresses

Units: About 21,000 in the U.S.; 2,600 in Canada

Importer: The TJX Companies, Inc., of Framingham, Mass.

Hazard: The decorative buttons on the front of the dress can detach, posing a choking hazard.

Incidents/Injuries: None reported in the United States or Canada

Description: This recall involves the Emma’s Garden® polka-dot dresses. The girls’ dresses in sizes 12 months to 5T were sold in black and white and pink and white. There are three decorative buttons which are round, white and approximately ¾ inch in diameter. Dresses sold in the United States have neck tags bearing tracking number TJX-80327TDS1.

Sold at: T.J. Maxx sold the pink and white design and Marshalls sold the black and white design in the United States from February 2011 through May 2011 for about $13. Winners stores sold both designs in Canada, from March 2011 through April 2011 for about $17.

Manufactured in: China

Remedy: Consumers should immediately take the dresses away from children and return them to the place of purchase for a full refund.

Our Daughter's Dresses Is Another Story

When she was a baby you could not wait to put her on her first pink dress that you've scrutinized over and out. You could not wait to celebrate occasions so you can let her wear her cute baby dresses with matching headband on her bald head. And then when she learned to walk, it was another set of dresses you wanted for her. You shopped and let her wear different kinds- there were a lot to choose from! Frilly girls party dresses to sequined and floral ones.

Suddenly, it was her who chose her dresses. She learned to twirl and prance with her dress. She wanted to be a princess and would not take off her princess dress. Then after a few days, it was ballerina and her tutu dress! 

Looking at my daughter's dresses I realize how much she's grown and how much changes we all had. I collected her now all too short and worn out dresses and decided to hand it to someone who could use it more. But among all the dresses worn by little girls as they grow, some tend to be more memorable than others and so I kept just a few which I knew one day I will be able to take it out and show her and tell her the stories behind it.

Canadian Post Alternate

I have been using the USPS for shipping to Canada.  Cost is cheap.

Unfortunately with the Canadian Postal Strike, Canada Post has suspended operations.

If customers want it, I can add UPS.  Cost would $20 for the first dress, than $5 for each additional dress.  Plus the wonderful brokerage fee.

Overseas Shipping Update

I just found out the US Post Office going wishy washy on the 1st class overseas dates.  They used to publish 5-10 days, but it seems to be 7-21 days now.  I even called them up and got the run around!

So I have now updated the estimated delivery to 7-21 days.  With customs, this is a safer number.  I have also added Priority Mail for overseas that is 5-10 days, but does cost more.

Shipping is about my cost.  Often its below it truthfully. 

Yes, I could ship FedEx or UPS overseas, but those are even more costly.  I would estimate you would start doubling the cost, not to mention the custom house fees.
