3. Time it right - Know when to say your toast - not when nobody is paying attention, but may be that is when you want to speak.
   
4. Keep it short and sweet - Short is good!
   
5. Acknowledge the people who made it happen - Right thing to do and makes you look good, but do in moderate amounts.
   
6. Get personal - ie don't read it out of a book of toasts, people can tell.
   
7. Be thoughtful and creative - Focus on the audience and what they would like to hear.
