Does your teen tell you that wearing
girls dresses is not her "type"? And do you have trouble letting her wear one? Experts say, some girls do experience tomboyish stage at certain age and that their taste for clothes and things will eventually change. There are also different predisposing factors why teens have different likes and dislikes. It could be that they have peer influence and they just want to be "in". But as a parent you should also check on other factors such as misinformed teens, deeper family issues, and other possible factors of her gender issues. Sometimes, they need more attention as in with counselor and all that but often, it's just a passing stage. You should be able to tell which side your teen is.
It could be frustrating for Moms to have a tomboyish daughter because as Moms, you find joy in dressing your teens. But remember not to be too pushy on your likes. Teens can now decide for what they want and pushing them to something they don't like would make them do exactly the opposite.
Instead try giving her options on what to wear. Let her wear dresses that's not heavy on designs, or you can show her pictures of popular teens on
party dresses.
Bottom line, it is also the responsibility of being a parent to respect the needs and wants of their kids.
Cheers to that!
