How to Apply Traditional Chinese Makeup

My mom was lot of things to me when I was growing up. She was my teacher, role model, and make-up artist. When I was a little girl, I loved to play dress-up and my mom would let me wear whatever clothes or costumes we had in our closet. My mom would put some powder on my face or lip balm on my lips to go with whatever I was wearing. It was always fun doing that with her. And whenever we attended a special occasion, she would apply make-up on my face which made it so much fun for me as a little girl.

Now that I’m a mom myself, I try to recreate that experience with my daughter. I try different types of make-up styles on her face. One time she had a Chinese theme party to attend, so I got some ideas for her make up. Everyone at the party loved it. So what’s the perfect look to go with that Chinese girl’s dress?

For traditional Chinese make-up, you could try the following steps:

1. Use white foundation for the face. Apply it first to the center of the face, forehead and chin. Cover all areas evenly.

2. Then apply some yellow and reddish pink eye makeup which stretches from the inner corner of the eye to the outer corners. Create that cat eye look simply by using liquid eye-liner or eye pencil to line her lash line.

3. Highlight her nose bridge by applying a shimmering pearl foundation.

4. Use red lipstick to finish the look.

Here’s an example:
