Most children are baptized a
few months after birth. Catholicism, for example, welcomes a child
into the Christian world two to three months into the child's life.
But not every faith christens a child in infancy. Some children are baptized at the age of four to seven, or when they are old enough to
answer for themselves.

Traditional Christening dresses are long in length, usually measuring 28” to 36” inches
long. The usual colors are ivory, off-white, or white.
Longer dresses are usually
more apt for newborns and infants. Baptism is a momentous occasion
for a child as he or she is welcomed into the Christian faith. And so
parents, especially of the first-born, make this day memorable with a
long and elaborate Christening dress.

Shorter dresses are more
fitting for older children. They are more comfortable to wear, and
allows for easier handling after the ceremony is done. Short dresses
usually fall mid-calf.

Whether you choose long or
short, Christening dresses now come in more contemporary designs. The
classic style of a simple bodice and a full skirt is made modern by
tulle, embroidery, beads, and sequins.
