After reading a few articles o line and reading forums posts on parenting sites about this, I came to realize a few reasons why our parents do what they do. Here are some insights:
- They only see their grandchild a few times a year – Sometimes we get married and decide to move away from our parents, sometimes very far away. Although this is a natural way of life, it leaves the grandparents yearning for time with their grandchildren. And so, when they come to visit, our parents tend to give their love, full attention and “anything” our kids wants. I remember when my grandparents did the same to me.
- They see “a much younger version” of us in our kids – Our parents can see a smaller version of us, the child they love and took care of, in our children. This brings back the happy memories of us growing up.
- They love our children –Being our parents, they love their grandchild! Because we love our kids, our parents will love them also. That's just it.
