With so many choices available, shopping for a baptismal dress can be more confusing than memorable. I recently had a customer who emailed me because her search for a baptismal dress was turning chaotic. The experience inspired me to write this post. And I hope you pick up a thing or two.

There are a few things to look out for when choosing baptismal dresses. Top on my list is deciding on the style. There are long formal gowns, vintage dresses, rompers, and even beautiful gowns in shorter lengths. Set aside an hour or two to just surf the Internet for different styles of gowns and decide which would be best for your little angle.
Once you’ve decided on the style, think about the length. While lengths vary from 22 to 42 inches, it’s really up to you. Long dresses have been the historical preferences. But short dresses, with beautiful designs and trimmings, are now gaining ground.

Next on your list is the important choice of fabric. From my previous post, I suggested that cotton, silk or linen should be top considerations. Make sure the dress is comfortable, breathable, and easy to handle. When choosing fabrics, I always go back to my own experiences as a child. I must admit I had my personal share of itchy and heavy fabrics. And so I always ask myself “Would I wear this?” before purchasing it for my child.
