Does the Post Office Hate Me?

Some days, it feels like the Post Office hates me. They are causing a bit of extra work.

We use a lot of US Postal Service Priority Mail. It's supposed to be 1-3 days. So if your in California and order a dress from us, you should get it the next shipping day.  Please note the use of the word shipping day. If your in the East Coast, usually 3 days. Sometimes 2 days, but usually 3 days.

But some genius in the Post Office decided they need to print the estimated time on the shipping label. So Priority Mail to PA for today's headache, shows

Priority Mail 2-Day

And the order shipped out on the 23rd, Monday. The order was placed on Saturday. So today, I get an E-Mail asking where is my order? And that the person paid for 2 days.

And of course, the tracking has not been updated since Monday!

The person actually paid for 1-3 days Priority Mail. The time is an estimate. May be I should add usually at the end of the shipping type. I already did that for Express Mail 1-2 days usually. I got tired of getting beat up when the shipment did not arrive the next day.

I am noticing with the snow storms back East and other areas of the US, I am seeing some delays in shipping times.

If your counting days for shipping, please remember the following:

1. If you place your order after 10 AM on a weekday, it won't ship to the next day. Specifically, I have had customers order a dress Friday night I think it was 7:20 p.m. and wonder why they don't have it Monday morning. We don't work weekends, and we leave at 4:30 p.m. If you call before we leave, we may be able to ship your package if ordered after 10 a.m.PST.

2. Weather does affect delivery times, especially for USPS which we use for Priority Mail.

3. For priority mail, it's not a guaranteed time. If you really need it within 3 days, and you use priority mail, your gambling.

4. We don't work holiday! And the USPS does not either.

5. The USPS usually delivers / works Monday through Saturday.

6. The FedEx option on our site does not include Saturday delivery.

There is a rather long page all about shipping on elitedresses, and their is a Frequency Asked Questions Section (FAQ) at the end.

Tips for getting a Girls Dress that Fits

How to Get A Girls Dress That fits

Girls Dresses vary depending on the style. A size 12 in one style, may be a size 10 in another. Just like Women's sizes vary, so do girls sizes. Unfortunately, there is no standard for dress sizes in the US, for girls or for Women.

What we have done, is create different size charts for each dress. Yes, that was a lot of measuring, since most of our suppliers don't give size charts.

I have the measurements, but I still Need help!

Send us the measurements along with the product code of the dress you like, and we will actually measure the actual dress to be shipped. Dresses are not 100% exactly the same even if the same style and size, they vary a little bit.

Tips for Getting The Right Size:

  1. The most important measurement for dresses, is around the chest. Nobody wants to have to do, what Carrie Fisher did to play Princess Leia.
  2. Note the size your daughter usually wears. Ordering a size 2, when your daughter usually wears a size 6 will not end well.
  3. Leave room for under garments.
  4. It's always better to go larger, than smaller in sizing. Most of the dresses I sell, have a bow in the back, that gives some adjustment.
  5. Give room for growth. Growth spurts do happen.
  6. If you can't get actual measurements, use a dress that fits your little one and measure that.
  7. If a dress is listed on elitedresses as a 3/4 for example, it's a size 4. It's the size the manufacturer puts on the label.

What is the difference between Rio's Carnaval and Mardi Gras?

I just saw this:

Party time! Carnival opens in Rio - Yahoo

So my dumb question, what is the difference between carnival and Mardi Gras?

Mardi Gras refers to Fat Tuesday, the day before Lent begins on Ash Wednesday.

And carnival starts on the day of the Feast of Epiphany. Epiphany, celebrated by the Catholic Church on January 6,is the day the visit of the Magi to Jesus (the three wise men).

Both are Catholic areas, Brazil was colonized by the Portuguese, and New  Orleans was run by the French, till the US bought it after Andrew Jackson kicked out the British.

So Carnival is more Spanish, where Mardi Gras is French. My understanding, is Portuguese and Spanish are very similar, and a person who speaks Portoguese can usually understand a Spanish speaking one..

The traditional colors in New Orleans for Mardi Gras are:

Meaning of Colors
     Justice (purple)
     Power (gold)
     Faith (green)
