Taking Care of Your White Flower Girl Dress

I’ve been blogging about my best friend’s wedding frequently, and finally we are barely a month away from her big day! As her maiden of honor, and wedding coordinator, I’m now in the processing of taking care of small details. And yesterday, a very excited me opened her delivery of pristine, white flower girl dresses.

We were very excited for the dresses to arrive. They are empire-cut gowns with beautiful lace accents. And put side by side, they look like heavenly clouds. Oh, if only my words can do them justice. As I prepared to ship them out, it occurred to me that keeping them immaculately white might be a challenge. I would know! The fitting of my daughter was a challenge of candy and juice stains.

·      Have your daughters try on the gown in the evening, after they wash up, and before they go to bed. This way, they are squeaky clean!

·      If no alterations are needed, apply a hanger to the dress and store inside your closet.

·      Should alterations be necessary, send the dress out as soon as possible. And when you get it back, make sure your hands (and your daughter’s hands) are clean before you handle the garment.

·      Relax! Should your darling stain the dress before the wedding, let it be. What’s important is she has fun.

First Communion Gift Idea

We receive Jesus Christ and our faith through the First Holy Communion that is why a First Communion Gift should be something special and should remind us about our faith. 

Here are some of the gifts that I believe is best for the Holy Communion.

1. Holy Rosary

 A Holy Rosary have a center medal with a Host and ciborium depicted. The cross, beads, and medal are all connected by chains so make sure that the Rosary for the child is sturdy. You can also go to any priest for the Rosary's Dominican blessing. This holy gift will definitely remind your child her faith and will make her closer to God.

2. First Communion Dresses

First Communion Dresses as a gift can be very thoughtful. Choose one that is modest, comfortable, and one that you can use to any other occasion. Tulle, tiered, or laced are great and girls will surely love because it will also make them look like a princess.

3. Communion Jewelry

 A necklace or a bracelet with crucifix as a charm is also a great gift for the First Holy Communion. Embellish it with beads or add more charms to the bracelet to make it look really pretty. Your little girl will love it so much she will wear it everyday.

4. First Communion Veils

If you'll be giving First Communion Dresses as a gift, a First Communion Veil will be a good pair to it. The one with tiara can also make the little girl look like a princess.

 And what is the best way to celebrate your child's Holy Communion! With a yummy cake of course! Make sure to take a photo of the cake before you let the kids eat so that you'll always remember what it looks like.

First Communion Party 101

First let me say that a First Communion Party is not obligatory. It depends on the preference of the child and the parents. There are some who would rather dine out with the entire family and just be thankful for the joyous event but there are also some who prepares for a lavish First Communion Party.

I received a nice note from a customer who bought 2 dresses for First Communion. One was for her daughter's First Communion and the other is for the after party event. I just goes to show that some parents really see the importance of First Communion and they put a lot of time, effort and money celebrating the occasion.

It is also customary to a First Communion after party to serve bread, wine (for adults), ice cream (for kids), and a white cake as part of the menu. A First Communion party is one of the occasions where you must entertain guests of all ages. Perhaps a face painting or a ventriloquist to keep the younger ones at bay during cocktail. A magician would also keep everyone entertained and of course a nice performance (a religious song or a religious music played in any musical instrument) from the First Communicant would be the nice.

As for the guests, the common gifts for the First Communicant is a necklace with a cross pendant, a bracelet with religious charms, a bible made for kids, a personalized reflection notebook, and also monetary gifts.

Some of my customers were grandparents who are buying the First Communion dress for their grandchild as a gift. It's so sweet of them :)

Tweaking A First Communion Dress From Elite Dresses

Having a seamstress in the family is a huge plus. Our EliteDresser Mom, Mommy A, ordered 2 dresses for her daughter's upcoming First Communion and she picked:

Mommy A loved Dress 1 and requested a return on Dress 2 which of course I obliged. Returns are easy at Elitedresses.

But Mommy A's Mom is a seamstress and they tweaked Dress 1 a little bit. They loved the bottom of Dress 2 so what they did, they removed the original mesh overlay of Dress 1 and put tulle instead. 

Mommy A promised to show us the beautiful end product of their tweaking (that is if she remembers). 

I'm actually excited to see how it turned out because on her last email, Mommy A was ecstatic for her child's First Communion dress.
