What can be done with Photoshop is amazing! Its nice there is now a program that can figure out if an image has been tampered with, and show what the original was. The extensive use of Photoshop, of editing a photo to make it look better, has lead to a lot of misleading photos that lead to the wrong image being projected to our children.

Color Shades

A customer asked if I can send a color swatch for D008 a Burgundy Girls Dress because they have found out Burgundy has different shades.  I had to reply I don't have color swatches, but the main photo is correct for the color.

The challenge/headache of color is it changes depending on lighting, not to mention most computer monitors are not calibrated.  A dress in direct sun light will look different than with HID, Florescent, or halogen lights.

Ivory, Champagne, and Sage are colors I have seen vary a lot in color.  And of course yellow (what color is Banana Yellow... Question from Yesterday on a Sash for D060 White Sleeveless Girls Dress (this one I recommended they make their own Sash to match their wedding color perfectly - Sashes are super easy to make).

There was the cutest picture I saw last night at a gallery that has a stage I was seeing a play above it. I wish I could have gotten a picture of it, but just did not have the guts. It was selling for $250. It was 6 girls with hands around each others waist being led. It was so cute!

Family Pictures and the right Dress

Family pictures can be hard and can cost a pretty penny. Kathleen Reeve Photography did some amazing black and white photos of my family that my husband arranged while we were in the San Jose area. She really captures the emotion in a picture. On her blog, she has posting on picking the Clothing for Family Portraits. If you have a chance, take a look at her site just for fun. And if you live in the Bay Area, I highly recommend her!

For those of us who don't live in the Bay Area, I found when my daughter was smaller that Sears did a great job of enticing a smile out of my daughter and had coupons that made it reasonable. They were an early adopter of digital so you could nix that picture with the eyes closed.

The god daughter of the person we bought out grand piano from has a neat business, where she hangs out with a family all day taking pictures of them. She calls it ur papparazi. She also did some of my dress photos. She's in the LA area and if your interested I can E-Mail you her contact info. I could not find a web page for her.

Mother Day Pictures

Nice set of tips for taking a good Mother's Day Photo. Suggestions were keep it simple and have the tops match.

Related photography observations. A customer just picked up some dresses for a wedding for their flower girl's (they had family near Rowland Heights, so I said OK. I usually just ship everything out to make life simple). They were surprised at how sparkly the Girl's beautiful lilac sleeveless formal dress is because of the Organza. Organza is this thin net that this dress has on the skirt, that is so hard to show in a photograph! At least for me.

So basically every model you see in a magazine has been changed, so they are no longer real Great quote: "Those young kids looking at the magazines, they're dreaming of something that doesn't exist," says Philippe Paschkes, a Manhattan stylist and makeup artist who has worked in the industry for 30 years.

Photoshop is so seductive. To fix the red eye in a family photo is seen as a fix, not changing the photo. The question is when does it become deceptive? With Girl's Dress Photo's the color is so important. The problem is it's hard to capture the exact color. It varies depending on the lighting and some cameras are better than others at taking photos. A sage girl's dress is hard to capture that it's a soft green. I don't even want to talk about Organza, and trying to capture the fine net in a photo. Dusty Rose is another challenging color to capture. And then people's monitors show colors a little bit differently! I do adjust the color to make it as true as possible.

I have learned so much about photo's and I have actually gotten compliments on my photography. I like to get as many photos as possible of a dress on the product page, so it shows all the details.
